fishing in norway

07/07/08 - Early news from Norway

After much preparation and anticipation, our first group of rods are now fishing the Naeroy river, in Southern Norway, which started its season at midnight on July 1st.

After hitting the river hard from midnight for a few hours it was clear that, as expected, there were already some good fish in the river.

The first evening saw two fish being lost and a good sea trout being taken but the honour of the first fish of the season went to Duncan Rush who took a mint fresh 12lber early in the morning. The first day produced three fish to the four rods and a further three fish were lost so it has been an encouraging start.

The river is crystal clear and the rods can see several fish in all parts of the river. It is deceptive however as there is still a lot of water coming down and line control has proven to be important.

We have three weeks of fishing on this stunning river and we look forward to reporting how the season has gone in due course. Everything that we had hoped for in terms of local co-operation has been put into place perfectly and we do believe that this river will become an extremely sought after option as to have such a long stretch of exclusive water to so few rods is extremely rare in Norway.
