13/02/2007 - The rain finally arrives in Tierra del Fuego
The start of the season has seen low water which has led to some excellent fishing but we had hoped for some rain just to freshen things up and this past week it came bringing the water up by about 3 feet. Such is the nature of the river that unless more rain comes it will drop back down but the rain will have moved the fish around the pools rather more which should simply improve the already excellent fishing.
Due to the rain, the water has been a little muddy but those fish which have been sitting at the bottom of the pools have stirred and are now running the river again. The water temperature has dropped and ranged from 38 to 53 degrees Fahrenheit during the day.
Some great fish have been landed, many over the 15lb mark with the largest being 24lbs taken from La Villa de Estancia Maria Behety.
The lines that have been most in demand have been 24 foot, 300 and 200 grain sink-tips but prior to the rain they were on floating lines so do be prepared for everything.
They started the week using small flies such as the EMB Rubber Legs and TDF princes. As the water levels rose they found that the larger leeches and Woolly B..gers were the most successful flies.
The previous week finished with a bang with Rick Elliot landing a superb 26lb hen on his last cast on the final day.
The weather forecast is for the next week to be cloudy with sunny spells but Tierra del Fuego is very unpredictable and therefore we suggest that you take a variety of clothes and equipment to cover all conditions possible.
There are very few spaces left in the whole season but if you are interested in experiencing this fabulous fishing please contact Charlie White or Sarah Chamberlain on +44 1488 689 701 for further details.
