28/02/2007 - Low water but sensational fishing
This year has so far been a low water year on the Rio Grande but it has proven to be one of the best seasons we have seen. With the fish concentrating in the lower parts of the river there has been some excellent fishing throughout the Estancia Maria Behtey's beats.
This week they have had almost perfect weather conditions, slightly overcast with very little wind. The water temperature has ranged from 40 to 52 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. Many fish over the 15lb mark have been landed this week with the largest topping the scales at 24lbs.
Floating lines with sink-tips have been the most successful lines and it is this fact that demonstrates the water level as we would normally expect full sinking lines to have been more prevalent all season. During the day they have been using nymphs in various colours in small sizes and in the evenings' big black flies.
The weather forecast for the next week is for some rain and to be cloudy and it does appear to be getting colder. However, Tierra del Fuego is very unpredictable and therefore we suggest that you take a variety of clothes and equipment to cover all conditions possible.
There are no spaces left for this season but if you are interested in experiencing this fabulous fishing in 2008 please call us as soon as possible as the repeat rate of clients is very high and there will only be limited spots available.
