Guatemala has gained an international reputation as having one of the highest concentrations of billfish, in particular Pacific Sailfish.

The coast in Guatemala forms a giant bay as strong easterly currents from Mexico retreat, turning west after colliding with the coast of El Salvador and creating an enormous eddy. These fresh currents are rich in baitfish, attracting voracious pelagics which thrive in the fertile waters. Blue, black and striped marlin swim these currents whilst inshore species such as jack crevalle and roosterfish patrol the shoreline.

English speaking captains have honed fly fishing techniques to the point of instinct with the result that Guatemala offers arguably the finest sailfishing in the world and twenty shots per boat per day is a regular occurrence.

In addition to the always abundant sailfish population, you may also have the opportunity to hook dorado, tuna, blue and black marlin. At certain times, inshore fishing offers shots at roosterfish and jack crevalle.
