Venezuela is home to some of the very best bonefishing in the world with its unique pancake flats acting as magnets to fishermen from all around the globe.

Ninety miles north of Caracas, Los Roques, the home of saltwater fishing in Venezuela, is a group of nearly 300 shimmering, sandy islands and islets that lie in aquamarine waters. Unlike other Caribbean islands, there are no high-rise hotels, no mass tourism and no cruise ships.

The whole archipelago, complete with the surrounding waters (2211 sq km), was made a national park in 1972 and as such no new buildings can be constructed and the permission to fish is granted to very few operators.

We work with the best of these operators, Sight Cast who have built reputation of having the best guides. Fortunately the head guide is not selfish with his knowledge and has built an excellent team of guides and boatmen around him.

The bonefishing is quite simply top class with big, double digit, bonefish sighted every day and numbers of schooling bonefish that have to be seen to be believed. Casting to a big taling bonefish on white hard sand flats is surely one of the best experiences that the saltwater fishing world can offer.

The tarpon fishing can be overlooked but it should not be as big numbers are present all year round but it is an irony that one of the major reasons they are difficult to hook up is the sheer number of baitfish that are seen - an indication of  these waters amazing productivity.

With big permit to be targeted and some of the best accommodation available, Los Roques really is the living embodiment of a fishery that should be tried by everyone.
