Fishing in Chile

Tres Rios Lodge enjoys one of the most spectacular settings imaginable with views over the Osorno volcano.

John Joy and his family settled in this traditional Chilean lakeside house many years ago, ending a long search with this remarkable find.

John's knowledge of the local rivers mean that you will fish beats that are rarely accessed and that you will be fishing each river and spot at exactly the right time to be there.

For the serious trout fisherman, Tres Rios is hard to beat.

Located in an area of breathtaking natural splendour, Tres Rios offers something to fishermen of all skill levels. Choose to fish rivers and streams, lakes, lagoons, spring creeks or saltwater estuaries, casting to brown, rainbow and sea-run brown trout as well as Pacific salmon in a single day.

The fishing area is over waters which have fallen from the Andean peaks on the border with Argentina to the foothills and their live volcanoes, an area bounded by deep fjords, continuing across the forested, rolling lowlands to the Pacific Ocean.

Fishing closest to the lodge is in the beautiful Lago Todos los Santos, a lake fed by mountain streams with access only through the streams themselves. Rio Cayutue, Rio Blanco, Rio Sin Nombre and Rio Punteagudo are only a few of these clear wading streams.

Accommodation in the lodge is in comfortable guest rooms all with spectacular views.

Meals are of the finest in Chilean cuisine featuring fresh seafood from the nearby coast and, of course, the region's famous beef, fresh fruits and vegetables.

The lodge is run by John's family and on staying here you are treated very much as part of that family. This is not five star sophistication but it is five star friendliness.

Rods
Fishing in Patagonia's clear rivers requires rods ranging from 8ft to 9ft depending mainly on your preference. It is always worth while taking two rods just in case one breaks.

Lines
Floating lines matched to your rods weight are usually the normal choice to fish these clear rivers with a dry fly. We suggest lines from 4 weight through to 7 weight, these will cope with almost any conditions that you will encounter. Although not usually needed it is always worth have an intermediate line or sink tip cover any and all eventualities.

Nylon / Leader
Tapered trout leaders starting at 10ft in length are suitable. Your tippets do not need to exceed 5lbs breaking strain.
