Estancia Laguna Verde End of Season Report 2013-14
By Hannah Treliving
A fantastic season has drawn to a close at Estancia Laguna Verde in the remote Argentinian Patagonian outback...
Improvements continue to be made to the program and even more fishing is on offer than before. There are new vehicles, new comfortable bedrooms in the lodge and a wider variety of wines from Mendoza on the wine list.
Our fishing co-ordinator, Hannah Treliving, visited in January and was very impressed with Laguna Verde’s offerings: ‘The Argentinian food and wine is second to none and the lake and river fishing offered is a supreme treat for the adventurous angler’.
There was outstanding fishing on offer at the Barrancoso river in the early part of the season. The season’s best for the river was a 21lber caught in mid-November by Charles D. The unknown Moro Creek was fished during this time too, and the new beats did not disappoint either.
The size of the catches on Strobel Lake increased as the summer progressed. There were many remarkable days of skating big dry flies targetting monstrous trout.
The season’s statistics speak volumes:
- 24 fish over 20lbs were caught during the season, compared with 14 of that calibre last season
- The season’s largest catch was a mammoth 24lb trout, with several coming close at 22lbs and 23lbs
- There was also an increase in the number of fish caught over the 15lb mark compared to last season
With heavy snowfalls forecast for the winter, the 2014/15 season is looking promising. We are taking bookings already so please contact Charlie White or Hannah Treliving for more information and lodge availability.
