Week 10 on the Rio Grande, Argentina

We are still awaiting last week’s report from La Villa Maria Behety but the rods at Estancia Maria Behety landed a total of 117 fish between them, 26 of them over the 15lbs mark and 10 over the 20lbs mark. The average weight of these catches was over 9.2lbs.

The river remains in excellent condition. The water is low and clear and although there have been some showers the level has not risen. It has been cold in the morning and warmer in the afternoon, with air temperatures between 34°F and 68°F. The winds were high for this stage in the season.

Typically, 6 to 9 weight Spey rods were used most of time with Skagit or Scandi heads with T-11, T-14 and T-17 in various lengths. MOW tips were a good choice with the Skagit head and for the Scandi lines Poly-leaders or Versi-leaders worked well. With the low water, single-handed rods worked well in some pools and runs.

For flies, nymphs such as the EMB, Aurelia Prince, Red Butt, TDF Prince, Chartreuse and green scuds were used. Green Machine, Titanic, black and olive woolly buggers, Yuk Bug, Tube flies such as Sunray Shadow, Monkey. Big leeches and intruders did the job in the last hour of fishing.

We do not know our availability for the 2016 season yet but to register your interest please do not hesitate to contact either Charlie White or Hannah Treliving who have both been lucky enough to fish these fabled waters.
