Bill Drury reports from Umba - 24 September - 1 October
By Charlie White
Bill Drury reports from the fifth week on the Umba where the elements were against the group for most of the week...
Day 1: A short Saturday session produced two fish. There was rain most of the day.
Day 2: 5 fish were landed, 4 of them from Krivets and 1 from the lower river. Three of these were fresh fish and two were coloured. Martin C laid claim to the two fresh fish of 12 and 13lbs, both from Nick Pool.
Day 3: 6 fish were landed today, 4 from Krivets and 2 from the lower river including a sea-liced 18lber from Brad's Pool caught by David F. The river level was dropping visibly.
Day 4: 4 fish were landed today, 3 of which were from Krivets and 1 from lower river. The best were a fresh 10lbs fish from Nick Pool for Dermot G and a sea-liced 6lbs fish from Home Pool for Bernard L.
Day 5: We had some cooler weather in the morning and some light rain. 3 fish were landed in Krivets and 1 in the lower river which was a fresh 18lber for Mike Bowsher in Home Pool.
Day 6: A very wet and windy day and the first time that we have fished Krivets this season without making contact with any fish. More positively, 2 sea-liced fish were caught from the lower river including an 18lber from Dermot G.
Day 7: The wind and rain continued through the morning resulting in 4 of the team not going out. For those who did brave the elements and cloudy water stirred up by the wind the results were betrter than expected. A small coloured fish was caught in Nick Pool and 3 fish were sadly lost. Heinz P had a fresh 14lber from Upper Rat. Martin V rounded off his trip with 3 cracking fish of 17, 18 & 22lbs, our congratulations to him!
