Scottish salmon season gets off to a great start

This March has proved one of the best in recent years for many of the Highland rivers, including the Spey, Brora and Helmsdale which have all been producing fish...

All parties have caught some superb spring salmon and again the quality of fish has been notable. As I write this, one of our parties on the Helmsdale has just reported a cracking salmon of 20lbs which he landed a short while after his friend on the beat below managed a fabulous 30lbs fish. Let us hope this trend continues into the main part of the season.

Generally speaking, we are in need of some rain in the far north to lift the water but the beats are still picking away in tricky conditions this week.

The picture shows fisher extraordinaire “Piers of Arabia” with his 20lbs catch.
