Morocco is becoming increasingly popular as a sunshine destination for dove shooting: copious amounts of sunshine, a fascinating history and culture, interesting architecture and stunning scenery.
In Morocco the doves are pests, doing unnecessary damage to the meagre crops in a very dry region. To see the delight on the locals faces as the guns emerge at first light to reduce their number is one of the memories of this trip. That combined with the grins on the children's faces as they scamper home at the end of the shooting with some of the bag for the pot! Doves are a delicacy in Morocco, for the locals and visitors alike.
Morocco's dove shooting season is short and Government controlled, only taking place during the hot summer months of late June through to early/mid August. The shooting takes place over four day weekends, with shooting on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. If you are taking a partner why not extend your stay with an extra night or two at the Gazelle d'Or, or perhaps taking a scenic drive over the Atlas Mountains, to stay in Richard Branson's fabulous Kasbah Tamadot in the foot hills or relax at one of the many fine Riads or Hotels of Marrakech. There are many ways in Morocco of making a really enjoyable week or so away.
