Shooting in Morocco
La Gazelle d'Or
Bird Shooting in Morocco at La Gazelle d'Or

Flanked by the peaks of the Atlas Mountains on one side and dusty desert on the other, La Gazelle d’Or is an oasis of elegance and sophistication set in two hundred acres of beautiful gardens and olive groves.

The rooms comprise thirty pretty stone cottages screened from each other by wild profusions of plumbago and bougainvillea. Set back from immaculate green lawns, each air-conditioned cottage is individually furnished with antiques, mosaics and hand-made rugs in a clever blend of contemporary European and traditional Moroccan style. Secluded terraces are perfect for al fresco breakfasts after shooting, whilst on cooler evenings, flickering log fires create a wonderful atmosphere inside.

Colourful lunchtime buffets are usually taken by the hotel’s twenty-four metre pool while dinner is a world-renowned epicurean affair of five courses or more. With a hammam, massage and aromatherapy on offer, tennis, riding and expeditions to explore the surrounding country and the fascinating town of Taroudant close by, there is plenty to do for the guns and their non-shooting companions.

Season: June to August.

Licence requirements: Local shooting licence will be obtained by Roxtons.

Insurance requirements: Membership of the Countryside Alliance includes the necessary insurance.

Early mornings may be cold but the days soon heat up, although there is usually a cooling breeze. Dress for comfort in neutral colours with a wide brimmed hat. Dark glasses and sun screen are essential. The restaurant at the Gazelle d'Or is quite smart and a jacket and tie are required, though you are more likely to be dining on the terrace.
