La Portenita has been at the hub of the Hayes Brothers operation from the beginning and has been enjoyed by hundreds, if not thousands of shooters over the years. Approached down a long drive and set on a small hill top, the lodge enjoys stunning 360° views, but particularly to the Sierra Chicas to the northwest.

The lodge has six bedrooms and bathrooms with a huge living room. Additional guests can be accommodated in the three bedrooms in the Casita, just nearby in the immaculate grounds. There is also a swimming pool and a charming Jesuit Chapel.

The doves, vermin in the eyes of the locals for the damage they do to crops, roost 25 – 45 minutes way from La Portentia and by their sheer numbers each days sport is guaranteed. A restorative massage at the end of the day is very welcome indeed.

Seasons: Year round, though higher birds when they are in the hills, from July to March.

Gun requirements: 12 bore, 20 bore, 28 bore cartridges available, alternatively 20 bore over and under or semi-automatics available.

Licence requirements: If taking your own guns from the UK a Temporary Export Licence is required from the DTI, which will be obtained on your behalf by Roxtons together with your local shooting licence.

Insurance requirements: Membership of the Countryside Alliance includes the necessary insurance.

The province of Cordoba enjoys a mild dry continental climate. During the most popular times of year for shooting, our autumn and spring, temperatures will be in the late seventies, early eighties. with very little rain. Dull and neutral colours are recommended in natrual fabrics, short sleeved shirts but long trousers to protect against the scrub. Peaked hats and hand guards/gloves are adivsable.
