Shooting in Spain at Ventosilla

Shooting in Spain at Ventosilla

Here is an estate steeped in both English and Spanish shooting tradition and history. The current owner’s anglophile great grandfather started the Ventosilla driven shooting legacy in 1880. This tradition was continued by the Count of Teba, grandfather to the current owners. The Count was a world renowned shot and holder of various shooting records and a world title.

Ventosilla is a living example of Spanish shooting history. Built primarily as a hunting lodge with parts dating back to the 15th Century; the reception rooms are bedecked with artefacts from the past. The recently refurbished Palace, with its 10 en suite bedrooms, is available for the private use of the guns and their guests.

The Estate covers an area of 3,000 hectares. The natural terrain at Ventosilla lends itself to good, varied shooting with sympathetic agricultural practices, including strategically planted game crops, which only enhance the drives. It has some deep gorges which show some very high birds, with some other drives which although not so high produce some extremely sporty birds.

Nearby Toledo is an extremely interesting place to visit and non shooters have to option to visit the city during their stay at Ventosilla.

Season: October – February.

Shooting in Spain is not nearly as formal as shooting in the UK so a relaxed dress code prevails. Layers are sensible as you may awake to a sharp frost but by lunchtime the sun will be high, the sky clear and shooting in shirt sleeves will be the order of the day. Walking boots are recommended, as wellingtons will hopefully not be required.
