Shooting in Spain at Cortijo Soto Real

Hidden in 5,000 acres of the beautiful undulating scenery is the Cortijo Soto Real, a 5 star small luxury hotel in a blend of traditional Andalucian and Moresque style. Originally owned by north African royalty, the shooting here has its own particular brand of magic, upholding long traditions, combined with superb weather and excellent hospitality. The estate offers quail shooting in the summer months and partridge shooting in winter.

Soto Real provides the perfect summer escape to enjoy two or three days of walked up quail shooting over pointers together with relaxing around the pool, enjoying the spa or taking in some of the wonderful places to visit in this richly historical area of Southern Spain.

The quail shooting is sold on the basis of a minimum of two guns booking for two days/nights (though you can stay for longer) but accommodation is for a maximum of eight guns. Bags tend to be about 100 quail per team per day. Good quality hire guns are available from the hotel, though you are welcome to take your own and all paperwork will be organised in advance of your arrival.

In addition to the quail shooting, the estate offers partridge shooting during the winter months and between October and mid March the hotel is closed and acts as a private shooting lodge for a wonderful red legged partridge driven shoot. Bags are between 400 - 500 birds per day to lines of up to ten guns.

Seasons
Quail: June - August.
Partridge: October - March.

Shooting in Spain is not nearly as formal as shooting in the UK so a relaxed dress code prevails. Layers are sensible as you may awake to a sharp frost but by lunchtime the sun will be high, the sky clear and shooting in shirt sleeves will be the order of the day. Walking boots are recommended, as wellingtons will hopefully not be required.

For quail shooting, light trousers and shirts in muted neutral colours are recommended, with a pair of comfortable walking boots.

For partridge shooting, the morning starts with a hearty breakfast after which pegs are drawn and a safety briefing is given. There are normally five drives per day with a break mid-morning for some wonderful tapas and a sit down lunch in the field or back at the lodge.

It is with careful management that both the wild and released quail produce some wonderful shooting over pointers. The shooting takes place early in the morning and finishes at about 10.00am when breakfast is served by the pool. The rest of the day can be spent as you please, visiting local towns/cities or simply relaxing and enjoying the hotel's pool and spa facilities with a delicious lunch washed down with some superb Fino sherry. There is an afternoon/evening outing for quail which, depending on temperature, normally begins 4.30 or 5.00pm and finishes in time for a quick shower before drinks and dinner.

The estate shoots both mid week and on Saturdays and Sundays.

Horse riding, quad biking, cycling, carriage rides and visits to Seville, Cadiz, Arcos de La Frontera, Cordoba and Grenada are all within easy reach.

Located 45 minutes from Seville, 120 minutes from Malaga and only 20 minutes from Jerez de la Frontera. A two and a half hour flight from London.
