Steelheads are sea run rainbow trout, which, like sea trout, leave the confines of the rivers to feed in the rich seas and become strong and silver.
Steelhead are one of the most prized sport fish - hooking and successfully landing a well-sized steelhead is a real challenge and should be on every angler’s to-do list.
They have a hard fighting style, punctuated by long powerful runs and are notably acrobatic and have been observed leaping five feet out of the water when hooked.
Steelhead range from 5lbs to 25lbs in weight and will test any fly fisherman's fighting resolve.
