Barracudas are ray-finned fishes notable for their large size, fearsome appearance and aggressive takes.
Barracuda are notorious strikers and put up a good fight on relatively light tackle. When hooked they have a powerful first run followed by shorter runs near the surface at speeds of up to 27mph, jumping high in shallow water.
Barracudas occur both singly and in schools around reefs, but also appear in open seas. They are voracious predators and hunt using a classic example of lie-in-wait or ambush. Surface lures and poppers tied to wire trace are the most effective methods of catching them but let your guide unhook them!
