Orkla, Norway

The Orkla is a big fish river that is reliable and very professionally run.

Grindal Salmon Lodge is situated 31 miles from the estuary and has 3.7 miles of fishing on the famous Orkla. With 17 pools available to guests, 2 of them, Igd pool and Pollen, are among the best holding pools on the river. There are 1 to 2 guides depending on the number of guests who then rotate through the guests. The lodge caters for a maximum of 12 rods and is one of the best run in Norway.

Catching a fish a day is a realistic expectation when conditions are right. 30lbs plus fish have been caught every year since the lodge opened in 2002.

Rods can be assured of a very professional service from start to finish and with the nets being removed from the Trondheim fjord, the future looks bright for this historic area of Norway. Catch and release rates have also increased in recent years.

The water at Grindal Salmon Lodge varies greatly and includes both rapids and glides. The wading varies but is generally good in most places. 12 rods fish the water ensuring plenty of fishing every day with an excellent home pool that can be fished 24 hours a day.

The Orkla is regulated by a hydro power station which means there is always water even in very dry years.

Accommodation

The accommodation is based in four very comfortable cabins with single rooms for all of the rods.

The main building has comfortable areas for relaxation after a day on the river. The food is delicious and as a party, dinner can be taken out by the river.
