Having just about recovered (10 hours sleep last night!) I wanted to write to tell you how much I enjoyed my trip to La Villa Maria Behety. I loved every minute of my stay even if the wind on the first 2 days was crazy. The guides did say that it was very strong for that time of year!
I was extremely lucky with the other guests, what a lovely and varied bunch they were, all very welcoming and good fun. I thoroughly enjoyed fishing with Jonathan and will definitely be staying in touch with him. Colin is a great character and very much sets the tone with his great humour and generosity of spirit – we have already been Whatsapping since we got back yesterday.
I ended with 16 fish of which 8 were 15-18lbs – incredible fish by any standards. My last session on Friday evening yielded 6 fish (plus several lost) all mint fresh. It was Beat 30 so close to the sea. It has to be one of my most exciting ever fishing sessions.
The guides were all excellent. If there was any weakness it was Luciano’s lack of English but he made top for it with his knowledge and enthusiasm. Diego and Jorge were delightful and extremely attentive and without them we would not have caught nearly as many fish. Jorge did his infamous “tapping of the rod butt while you are not looking” trick while I was nymphing and when I lifted the rod to strike I found that, unbeknownst to me, I had in fact hooked a fish and then landed it – he was on the floor laughing about it!
Ana and the lodge staff were brilliant, the food was good and the wine was a revelation. I should also add that Laeticia is AMAZING – what an asset, nothing was too much trouble and her problem solving abilities are off the scale (she supplied me with a last minute additional suitcase to avoid weight issues on the internal flights and effected some excellent running repairs on my brand new Sage rod case.
All in all a fabulous trip. My thanks to you both for arranging it, I hope to return!
