La Villa de Maria Behety Lodge Week 7 Report, 2020

by Charlie White

This week has been the best so far. Full floating and intermediate lines with small flies worked best with Salmon flies as small as size 10 doing the business. Also green machine and EMB worked very well. The river still holds a great level of water. The team landed 108 fish with 20 fish over 15 lbs, 2 fish over 20 lbs and an average weight of 9 lbs. Ken E was top rod of the week with 27 fish landed. Doug S got the biggest fish at 21 lbs.

Water Conditions
Water colour and visibility: Very clear water this week.
Water temperature: 10 c to 17 c.
Water level: Still in great shape.

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: The wind blew in from the northwest but was never overly strong all week.
Air temperature ranges through the week: 8 c to 22 c .
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): Good weather all week.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that worked best: Salmon flies size 10 and 12 were effective as well as EMB, green machine and sunray shadow.
Big flies for the last hour: big tube flies, leeches and large intruders.
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing: Intermediate lines were the best, using salmon flies, green machine and sunray shadows. Mostly a dead drifted fly was the best but we also had some success from stripping the fly.
Length and strength of tippet and leader: 7 to 14 feet. 15 to 20 pounds.

We have started to catch more fish in the upper parts of the river however the lower pools are still the best. We are still getting a mix of fresh and dark fish.
