Game Licences abolished in Scotland

The Scottish Parliament has passed the third and final stage of the Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill, which include the following changes:

  • Abolishment of Game Licences
  • Reformation of poaching laws
  • Establishment of a new close season for hares
  • Improvements in approaches to deal with invasive non-native species
  • Legal recognition for the practice of catching up game birds for breeding stock
  • Increased protection for badgers
  • Changes to the muirburn season to protect ground-nesting birds
  • Increased intervention powers for Scottish Natural Heritage if deer are not being managed or if they are causing damange to the environment.
