Grouse Prospects for the 2012 Season

by John Duncan

The start of the shooting season is nearly upon us but it is unsurprising that some Estates have been affected by the high rainfalls over the summer.

Areas most affected have been in Scotland with the Angus Glens and Perthshire being the hardest hit. Estates to the west of the A9 in the north of Scotland and those in Speyside are also not looking good. This will obviously have a detrimental effect to the rural economy in these areas.

Estates in the north of England have been affected less, although counts on the whole have been slightly down on the record counts of last season. Despite this, the majority are predicting another good season.
