Unfortunately the Highlands, Angus Glens and Lammermuirs in Scotland have seriously suffered this year due to a detrimental late downfall of heavy snow in April, and some estates have had to cancel their days. The northern Pennine moors are also sadly cancelling some of their early season days. However, the lower lying moors in these areas have seen good bird numbers but reports are that some of their second broods are slightly behind in terms of size. It is therefore likely that we will see an increase in bag sizes as the season progresses into September as these broods start to show themselves in the coveys.
Further south, it is a different story as from the North Yorkshire Moors and central Pennines are that their counts have been strong so they are expecting a decent season.
