Roxtons support research into ecological impacts of released pheasants on Exmoor

by Roxtons

The GWCT’s aim of this project has been to ‘take a balanced approach to quantifying the impacts of releasing and shooting management that are common across shoots in the Exmoor region. [We] have focussed on several key shoot activities that could impact on woodland or farmland habitats. These are release pens, woodland structure, game crops and hedgerow birds.’

With a lot of help from the estates themselves they have accumulated a great deal of detailed information on cropping and birds at three different estates in the last six months. This data will need some analysis and interpretation. With the bird surveys ending in June, they say their best estimate is that they will be able to report on these phases of work towards the end of 2017.’
