Timkulu, South Africa
A great combination of superb wild bird shooting, fantastic hospitality and excellent lodges.
The shooting at Timkulu is owned and operated by one of South Africa's finest bird shooting experts, whose organisation and attention to detail are second to none. At Timkulu the shooting is varied and challenging with up to 12 different species of game birds being bagged per day. There are flighted doves, pigeons, geese and ducks; walked up and driven francolin, guinea fowl and some quail. This can be combined with some excellent plains game stalking.
Timkulu Lodge is situted on a seculeded game farm close to the town of Kimberley, which was made famous by De Beers and of course Cecil Rhodes. The lodge, parts of which date back to the C18th, has five double en-suite bedrooms with fantastic views over a large area as well a busy water hole by the lodge. The lack of electricity contributes to the atmosphere that truly reflects Africa.
Timkulu is lucky to have exclusive rights to some of the finest sandgrouse shooting, on the edge of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa. This is one of the best areas for both Burchell's and Namaqua sandgrouse. These are flighted in the mornings only, allowing guests to spend the remainder of the day enjoying game drives, riding, swimming, and guided walks from the lodge or plains game stalking.
