Conholt Park, England
“…elevating a superb sporting experience into a unique social occasion…”
Conholt Park is one of the hidden shooting gems in Southern England and Roxtons are delighted to offer this exclusive shoot to our clients.
Situated in East Wiltshire, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Conholt offers challenging combinations of driven pheasant and partridge, in the wooded hills and grassy valleys. Thoughtfully renovated over the last 22 years, the shoot was the vision and passion of the late Paul van Vlissingen, a true countryman who so strongly believed that shooting and conservation go hand in hand.
The van Vlissingen Family continue to improve the 2500 acre estate and are committed to the conservation of this unique chalk down-land habitat. The central shooting valley consists of 1500 acres of grassland with strategic hanging woods from which exceptionally high pheasant can be shown. The layout of the woodland and continuing management of the grassland is all done in the best interests of the shoot, the game birds and other naturally occurring wildlife.
The variety of drives offered at Conholt ensure a good combination of high birds and low fast and weaving birds, thus challenging the guns at every stand. The morning drives are traditionally divided by “elevenses” providing an opportunity for the guns and guests to sample some hot soup, delicious snacks and a sloe gin for the more adventurous. Transport is provided between stands and guests may also choose to enjoy a brisk walk through the countryside. The days consist ideally of three or four drives with the focus on long good drives with challenging birds rather than shorter but more numerous drives. The optimal shoot number is seven single guns but eight would be considered upon request.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are taken in the main house, which has a wonderful garden and offers a beautiful vista of the landscaped parklands. The guns and their partners are accommodated in tastefully appointed double rooms with private bathrooms, and catered to by the full time chef, housekeepers and butler.
