Hurdcott and Compton Chamberlayne, England
Hurdcott & Compton Chamberlayne lies to the west of Salisbury on the beautiful River Nadder.
The shoot is owned by the Stephenson and Newman families and is run by George Stephenson. George is a keen shot and has made full use of the beautiful rolling countryside to make one of the best shoots in this part of the world. With over 4,000 acres of downland, woodland and river valley, the shoot offers superb quality sport in a stunning setting.
Hurdcott & Compton Chamberlayne start shooting in mid-October and days throughout the season show a mixture of pheasant and partridge. Hurdcott & Compton Chamberlayne remains very much a family shoot, with a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and only offers a small number of let days. A day here is therefore considered to be a bit of a treasure and available dates are a rarity.
Our teams enjoy George and his wife Lucilla’s hospitality from the moment they arrive. Guns are always made to feel most at home from the moment they arrive at Hurdcott House.
Guests are welcomed into the main drawing room for tea and coffee on arrival, with lunch taken in the dining room and teams return to the house once more at the end of the day for afternoon tea. An excellent elevenses is also provided in the field to ensure no one goes hungry over the course of the day.
Hurdcott & Compton Chamberlayne has a very loyal following, its success a direct result from a combination of the quality of the shooting, the beautiful setting and the charming atmosphere lead by convivial hosts.
