La Encinilla, Spain
La Encinilla estate is located in Madrid Province just 40 minutes from Central Madrid along a very good roads network. The estate covers 1,500 hectares with some wonderful valleys which allow the team of keepers to produce very good quality driven partridge shooting.
The shooting takes place in three main valleys all with their own character, allowing for a great variation in drives. Many are covered with evergreen oak trees (Encina) which gives reason for the name of the estate.
The owner who shoots in the UK regularly regards the majority of the drives as ‘English Style’ which is true of the quality of birds which they produce.
The idea is for the teams to shoot with single guns and load for themselves, guns will be allocated with a secretario to carry guns, cartridges and to count the number of birds the gun accounts for in each drive. In order to avoid any tricky conversations, the days can be capped with no issues with overage, although overage is possible, but only with the consent of the team/host.
As is the normal in Spain, the tapas, lunches and hospitality are first class with lunch being taken in the field. If the weather is not of the typical, fine, sunny variety then the comfortable shoot lodge is utilised.
There is a choice of accommodation available, with its close proximity to Madrid some teams elect to stay at one of the many excellent hotels to be found in the capital and travel to and from the estate each day.
Alternatively the estate is 10 minutes from the lovely small town of Chinchon, with its wonderful Plaza which at certain times of the year is transformed into a bull ring for the local Feria. Chinchon has a wonderful Parador, which is a converted monastery just off the main Plaza, the Parador has just be refurbished and offers very comfortable accommodation along with Chinchons many excellent restaurants and tapas bars in which to dine in the evenings.
For those looking for more exclusive, private accommodation then there is a private lodge 20 minutes from the estate which can be used. This again is very comfortable, with excellent food and is fully staffed.
A typical two day shoot will consist of a full days shooting with lunch in the field, the second day teams normally shoot through and have lunch at the end of the day whilst guns are cleaned and they have the opportunity to change and head directly back to the airport, if only wish to stay for two nights
