Danby Moor

Danby Moor, England

The second largest of the North York Moors, Danby has, in recent years, produced some outstanding days of driven grouse, located on the northern edge of the North York Moors, close to the harbour town of Whitby.

Owned by the 12th Viscount Downe, the Moors have gone from strength to strength in recent years. The team of keepers, through hard work and plenty of enthusiasm, brought back the Moor to perform exceptionally well and have since produced record seasons, whilst leaving a very healthy stock for the following season.

The Moor itself is beautiful with views towards the North Sea and wonderful dales of Little Fryup and Greater Fryup.

Extending to over 10,500 acres, there are two main beats, the high beat and the low beat, allowing for three consecutive days of fantastic driven grouse.

Each beat has its own excellent and imaginative lunch arrangements, the lower part of the Moor utilises a newly refurbished shoot room and the upper beat has a charming shepherds hut.

A vast range of accommodation is available locally with the market towns of Helmsley and Pickering, which are only a short drive in the morning to the Moor.
