Novar Estate, Scotland
The Novar Estate is ideal for corporate or private groups looking for a highland experience that can offer everything from grouse to salmon to stags. Erica Munro Ferguson is a wonderful hostess and makes all guests feel very welcome.
Novar Estate offers a truly mixed sporting experience in the north Highlands, yet is only forty minutes from Inverness airport with frequent direct flights from London. The estate covers some 20,000 acres of farmland, forestry and open hill country.
Accommodation at Ardtalla, Novar’s recently opened sporting lodge is superb and has been renovated to the highest standards. Ardtalla has nine ensuite bedrooms, all with baths and large showers and is let on a fully staffed and catered basis to groups of eight to eighteen guests for short stays or sporting weeks.
Sport at Novar includes: Salmon fishing which is available on the River Alness from July right through to the end of October. A fantastic driven partridge and pheasant shoot on the estate for days of up to 125 brace. Red and Roe deer stalking on the hill. Walked up grouse shooting (Spring counts allowing).
The River Alness is a small river of great character. It is great fun for advanced and novice fishermen alike with fantastic streamy pots and small pools that all need to be fished carefully to be successful. There are six rotating beats on Novar’s water, allowing rods to fish a different beat each day of the week.
The River Alness typically produces rod catches of 300-350 salmon and grilse per year of which about two thirds are caught on the private Novar Estate beats. Ghillies and full instruction can be provided on request.
