La Villa Maria Behety Fishing Report – 07 to 14 Mar

by La Villa Maria Behety - Diego Motter, Head Guide

Another week is over, we started the week with high and dirty water.

In Tuesday It rained all day, the river rose even more. The water got very high and dirty.

Fishing was very difficult, we try to find low and calm places.

We had to use very heavy lines and flies as big as possible, that made it more complicated.

We landed 20 fish, 6 over 15 pounds.

Top rod of the week was Michael graham with 7 fish on the net.

Horacio got the biggest fish with  19 pounds.

Water colour and visibility: dirty.

Water temperature: 6c   to 12c.

Weather Conditions

Wind speed ranges through the week: the wind wasn’t strong.

Air temperature ranges through the week : 6c. to 15c.

Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.):heavy rain on Tuesday.

Fishing Conditions

Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( scuds, red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray ).

We use skagit with sinking tips all week, all big flies.

Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-20,17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders .

Sinking skagit (game changer ), with high water in deep pools.

We recommend bringing two rods, one to use with scandi and another with skagit lines, and also a single handed rod or switch rod  for the upper part of the river.

Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds.

Middle and upper part of the river is the best.

We started to see some darker fish.
