Royal Zambezi Lodge, Zambia
On the banks of the mighty Zambezi river the Royal Zambezi lodge is the epitome of safari chic.
With one of the best lodges in Zambia as your base, no one will feel guilty for fishing all day as you can be sure that those who are not fishing are having a superb time. Being told “cast at that elephant on the bank” is not something you hear every day and fishing here is an almost surreal experience.
The Lower Zambezi offers one of the finest freshwater angling experiences in the world and is home to one of the world’s premiere game fish, the Tiger. The variety in the Zambezi, Hydrocynus vittatus, can grow up to 10 -12 Kg and is a superb fighter.
The best time for Tiger Fish is during the hot months of September through to November. Expert resident guides take fishing excursions on new, fully-fitted aluminium boats. For guests who are new to fishing or fly-fishing, the guides will provide expert instruction and assistance.
The waters of the Lower Zambezi are free from netting and therefore are your best bet for lots of big fish. At Royal there is a strict catch & release policy.
All tackle is provided and is of an excellent quality from fly fishing to spinning – the guides are also superb.
Accommodation
One of the most sophisticated lodges on the lower Zambezi, the recently refurbished five star, 10 tented Royal Zambezi Lodge has a breathtaking location and the game viewing opportunities afforded by its riverside position are outstanding even for safari veterans.
Ranged along the river bank, ten secluded and luxurious tented suites are a striking combination of contemporary style and colonial elegance with private decks and spacious bathrooms. Four deluxe chalets have plunge pools and private salas.
Plentiful bird and wildlife can be viewed from its timber decked bar suspended over the river or on walking and 4×4 safaris inland with highly experienced guides.
The Lodge also has an internationally renowned chef and the Lower Zambezi’s only bush spa.
