Owen River Lodge, New Zealand
Owen River Lodge is a boutique contemporary styled 5-star rated fishing lodge. It is located in the Owen Valley near Murchison, in the Nelson Lakes district on the north western end of the South Island of New Zealand. This unique location puts the lodge right in the middle of the best brown trout fishery in the world.
Owen River Lodge is situated 2km down a country lane from the main road, a leisurely 90-minute drive from Nelson or approximately 3½ hours from Christchurch. The lodge is situated in 16 acres of gardens and farmland.
The views from the lodge and guest cottage suites are breath-taking, with sensational outlooks to the Owen River, the valley, Mount Owen and the Kahurangi National Park.
The lodge sits on the bank of the Owen River and with almost a kilometre of river frontage, it is an ideal position for that quiet after-dinner cast during the evening rise.
The lodge is centrally located, with easy access to the Nelson and west coast fisheries. Thus you can enjoy fly fishing on numerous streams and rivers, with over 25 waters accessible by road with a 90-minute drive and countless others by helicopter.
The region is renowned as a brown trout fishery, with the average trout size ranging from 3 to 6lbs (there is nothing average about that!) and the fishery has granted many an angler’s dream of landing a 10lber.
The lodge can provide the use of all the fishing gear required free of charge. This includes Simms Guide Gore-Tex waders (ladies & mens sizes available), Simms Gore-Tex wading jackets, Simms Guide wading boots – size 5 up to size 14, Sage rods and reels.
The Owen River Lodge offers a friendly, professional service for both experienced and novice fly fishers.
Accommodation
The lodge consists of six guest cottage suites so has a mere 12 guests at any one time. The cottage suites are a short stroll from the main lodge building and all enjoy stunning views of the river, the valley and the mountains beyond.
Each guest cottage suite is equipped with reverse cycle air-conditioning, an electronic safe, ironing facilities, an alarm clock, mini bar – stocked with complimentary soft drinks and premium fruit juices and tea and coffee making facilities.
The main lodge building includes the dining room, lounge room, sitting room, lodge shop, fly-tying area and of course, the bar.
The lodge has two guest lounge areas. One of these is equipped with a TV/Video Player and DVD player as well as a Notebook PC for you to check e-mails etc. There is a wi-fi wireless network with satellite delivered broadband.
