Posada de los Farios, Chile
This is one of the finest fishing destinations in Chilean Patagonia, and offers a tremendous amount of geographical and angling diversity, including spectacular dry fly, streamer, and nymph fishing.
Rex Bryngelson has worked and guided for 14 years pioneering angling projects in Chilean Patagonia, and has chosen the Rio Cisnes (Swan River) and its tributaries near the Argentine border as his home.
The river directly in front of Los Farios is slow flowing and easily waded for a mile or two in either direction. There are two creeks that enter the river downstream and a number of small lakes, lagoons and lagunas nearby. There are also productive waters in the Lago Las Torres and its surrounding rivers.
Fishing on the Cisnes is a combination of floating and wading. Floating whilst stripping wet flies back from underneath the bank is an amazing experience and very unlike any trout fishing that you are likely to have encountered before.
A further advantage is the option to ride on horseback to the lodge’s remote, privately owned lake, brimming with large brown trout. Day trips can also be arranged to the Queulat National Park to fish spectacular sea run trout and salmon locations along the coast.
Accommodation
This ranch home is just a stone’s throw from the river and accommodates a maximum of six guests in comfortable guest rooms. Rex Bryngelson hosts at the lodge with his chef serving typically Chilean meals with the dining schedule organised around the day’s fishing.
A hot tub in the garden is a very relaxing way to end the day and sited as it is in the middle of the Andes, it is unlikely that you will ever have had a better view from a hot tub.
Posada de los Farios is a paradise for non-fishers. Options include birdwatching as condors, parrots, kingfishers, ibis and woodpeckers zip past or wheel overhead. Alternatively, following horse trails through the spectacular mountain vistas and virgin forest is the perfect way to unwind after white-water rafting the Rio Cisnes. River rafting is available and you can also visit some of the neighbouring farms and villages.
