Another fabulous week has flown by.
I have just waved goodbye to a great team who absolutely loved everything that this island, lodge and fishery has to offer.
The overwhelming sense from everyone was how welcome they felt and what a superb atmosphere the village creates. You really do feel part of a community with everyone pleased to see you and wanting to give you the very best holiday that is possible.
The fishing continues to be world class. Bonefish are the backbone of any saltwater fishery but what differentiates here is the astonishing average size of the fish. My fishing partner and I landed around 30 fish yesterday, all tailing on the flats and the smallest was 5lbs with the biggest tipping the scales at just under 10lbs – an amazing days fishing.
We have landed some very big tarpon and an absolutely huge barracuda which was around the 50lbs mark.
Sailfish have been hooked but not landed – parrot fish and triggers have been landed whilst permit remain doing their thing – frustrating!
The guides are all brilliant with an ability to see and find fish that astonishes on a daily basis. They are enormously helpful with novices and experts alike. It helps that they are all incredibly kind and forgiving when we inevitably make a mess of things!
The lodge is a beacon of hospitality and Mons, the chef, would be employed immediately in any top scale restaurant. We have eaten like kings and have wanted for nothing.
Next week is my last of the current stint. I wondered if six weeks would feel too long – not remotely the case and I am looking forward to showing another team how good this experience can be.
