Week 9 at Estancia Maria Behety ended on a high. Fishing was tough but productive. Even with difficult river conditions we managed to catch 105 fish for the week. 19 over 15 lbs and 2 over 20 lbs. Top Rod was our very good friend Kevin B with 15 fish to the net. Irvin P landed the fish of the week: 23.5 lbs.
Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: Very clear water.
Water temperature: 5° C and 12° C
Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: It was very windy this week. 0 to 60 km/h. West mostly but rotated to the north for two days
Air temperature ranges through the week: 7°C to 21°C
Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Flies of the week were EMB and sunray shadow. Small size nymphs like TDF prince, prince nymph, red tail. Also yuk bugs and woolly buggers. Big flies for the last 30 minutes in the evening: Intruders, tube flies and articulated leeches.
Floating or intermediate tips and sunray shadow worked very well. Only big flies for the last hour.
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: We used everything between floating and 15 feet of T-20.
Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 4 to 15 feet. Fluorocarbon 12 to 18 lbs.
For low water conditions and for some of the upriver pools I recommend scandi heads and short polyleaders or versileader.
