News from Alphonse Island in the Seychelles
By Charlie White
Next month we will see the stunning refurbishment of the twenty-one beach bungalows and five beach villas on Alphonse Island. Works have been going on in preparation for what is anticipated to be another popular season on the island...
The theme of the refurbishment reflects the ongoing commitment to embrace local creole style with that of the barefoot luxury sought on private islands. Featuring a range of sandalwood colours, whites and greys, incorporating local materials, the interim design concept has reflected in a sophisticated fresh, island style of the 21st Century. In addition to the beach bungalows and beach villas, an overhaul of the beach bar & restaurant has taken place and also includes distinctive characteristics such as natural light, natural hued colour palettes with cool shades paired with greens and greys. Soft furnishings in white and neutral tones are complimented with a variety of wooden accessories as well as those inspired by the ocean. The intention was to create a relaxed and comfortable environment inspired by the island, beach and ocean, to which Alphonse Island has succeeded.
Positioning itself as an ‘experience for all the senses’, Alphonse Island will be primarily focusing on the wide range of truly magical and wonderful encounters that are naturally exclusive to the island itself, that families, honeymooners & couples can experience within these islands, within these atolls, that cannot be encountered anywhere else in the Seychelles.

Massive schools of rabbitfish formed bait balls and moved into the lagoon which in turn made the GT’s go absolutely wild. The GT fishing was fantastic over the last week coupled with amazing bonefishing and even a few permit and triggerfish being caught in between. Not only was the flats fishing amazing but also the bluewater angling, with anglers landing some catches of a life time.
Fishing has improved this week with floating lines beginning to be effective. The team of 6 rods had a great week with a lot of laughs amongst great fishing. They landed 85 fresh fish with 16 fish over 15 pounds for an average weight of 10.1 pounds. The middle and lower river have fished best...
Ten years ago, work started on constructing the Delphi Club on a beautiful, deserted beach in south Abaco. Financed by Peter Mantle and a group of fishing friends from Ireland, Britain and the US, the venture quickly established itself as one of the finest fishing lodges in the world.
