Fishing

Tierra del Fuego, the start of the season

by Charlie White

Temperatures spanned from 0°C (32° F) to 24°C (75.2°F) and there was some rain but it did not affect the water levels or clarity, in fact the river is in excellent condition.

The fishing was consequently quite varied but overall, impressive; the average weight was 10.1lbs and the rods had 25 fish over 15lbs of which 3 were over 20lbs. Our congratulations go to Steve W who was the top rod for the week with 25 fish caught over the 6 days. One of these was a monster 26lber, a record for the season and the same size as Karen R’s in week 6.

For flies, the usual nymphs worked well throughout the days and big streamers and tubes were best at twilight.
At Estancia Maria Behety, the average weight of fish landed was 9.2lbs with 24 fish over the 15lbs mark and 3 of those over 20lbs.

There is still some last-minute availability for the rest of the season in March and April. Please contact Charlie White or Hannah Treliving for more information.
