Roxtons’ Guide to High-Volume Dove Shooting in Argentina

by Rupert Edgedale

In our opinion, Argentina is one of the most exciting sporting destinations in the world. Argentina offers high-volume dove shooting like no other, with electric and challenging shooting amongst dramatic landscapes and accompanied with exceptional South American hospitality, making for a highly memorable shooting trip.

Why Choose Argentina for Dove Shooting?

Thanks to its consistently warm climate, dove shooting is available year-round, although many prefer visiting during the cooler months of March – November.

The quarry is plentiful, with pigeons, ducks and perdiz available in addition to an impressive number of doves across many of the regions.

After years of shooting with teams in Argentina, we have cultivated a selection of some of the most sought-after lodges all offering unique experiences, meaning there is something to suit every gun.

What to Expect

Argentina’s diverse landscape offers a wide range of climates and landscapes, with the legendary Córdoba region considered the gold standard in high-volume dove shooting.

Doves are plentiful, filling the sky and they are responsible for huge amounts of crop damage with sunflowers and corn been their preferred diet, which means there are no bag limits and clients can shoot to their hearts content (or possibly until the most discerning guns are content). Duck, pigeon and perdiz shooting are also available with generous limits, with the duck season running from May – August.

The flight of the dove is fast, erratic, and unpredictable – the perfect challenge for experienced shots looking to hone their reflexes and accuracy.

When the doves reach their peak, the sky can be filled with countless birds flying wing-to-wing providing an awe-inspiring spectacle. It truly is the ultimate wing shooting adventure.

Beyond the Shooting Field

Argentina offers far more than incredible dove shooting. For non-shooting guests or those seeking to unwind after a day in the field, the country’s luxury hunting lodges provide a wealth of leisure and cultural experiences.

Enjoy fine dining, world-class wines, outdoor terraces, large swimming pools, saunas and even hot tubs for the ultimate relaxation experience. Beyond the lodges, guests can go horse riding, give polo a go at the local clubs (or watch the pros show you how it is done!), relax at the spa, golf, or experience cultural tours in nearby areas such as Jesús María and Córdoba.

Why not extend your trip and explore Argentina further? Roxtons Fishing offer incredible fly-fishing adventures in Tierra del Fuego or our sister company Bailey Robinson can tailor make a luxury holiday to remember.

Planning for Your Argentina Shooting Trip

It is not uncommon to shoot north of a thousand cartridges a day, so it is worth being prepared for this kind of high-volume shooting.

Before you travel, we recommend visiting our partners at Ian Coley Sporting, where expert instructors can help refine your stance and mount, as well as improve your accuracy. A little physical conditioning also goes a long way, so building up your strength and stamina before your trip will help you make the most of this demanding but rewarding experience.

Despite the remote locations of the lodges, most are easily accessible with a short flight or a few hours drive from Buenos Aires, with Santiago Del Estero, La Portenita and Guayascate all boasting their own runways and Roxtons can easily help arrange private charter flights for your team.
