The Countryside Alliance has launched a new e-lobby as part of its campaign to safeguard the future of shooting in England, Scotland and Wales. The government is preparing to consult on restricting shotgun ownership by aligning parts of firearms licensing legislation which would have enormous impacts on the shooting community, the rural economy and conservation, without improving public safety. It takes less than 20 seconds to complete the e-lobby, and we need everyone who loves shooting and the countryside to take part. Please do so here.
Despite the proven benefits of controlled burning in reducing wildfires, and ignoring the latest available science and evidence, the government is also proposing to further extend the existing restrictions on the controlled burning of vegetation on peatlands. These would make it all but impossible to manage vast areas of our uplands which would have a significant impact on the environment and livelihoods of many. We will be responding to the consultation and urge you to do likewise. Further details are provided below.
There is just over a week left in which to have the chance of winning a pair of outstanding Beretta shotguns in our gun draw. If you have not already bought a ticket please do so, as every ticket purchased helps support the work of the Campaign for Shooting. All places at the Warter Priory Charity Clay Shoot in May have now been filled, but you can still take part in the High Tower Challenge on Saturday 17 May and book tickets for the fundraising ball that evening. Details are below, as are those for what promises to be another wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable Lobster Shoot on the Bereleigh Estate on 6 June.
