Roxtons is pleased to announce that its managed shoot, Arden & Hawnby, has been awarded a Trusted Game Gold Pass following a comprehensive audit conducted by vet Dan King of Sandhill Veterinary Services.
Speaking after the assessment, Dan King said:
“We recently carried out the Trusted Game audit at Arden & Hawnby. During the audit, we reviewed the shoots practices, records and figures in detail and Arden was one of the very few sites we’ve visited that had all of the legal paperwork and records in place ahead of the audit. It was clear to us that the team clearly operate to high standards as the shoot was closely aligned to best practice Trusted Game guidelines and therefore passed to the Trusted Game Gold standard.”
Dan also highlighted the value of the process for the shoot team:
“The head keeper, Rob and his team all agreed that the review helped them ensure that all of the current legislation is met and records retained, but it also provided a practical veterinary review of management, health and bird welfare. Hopefully, some of our discussion around potential changes will help to continue to improve bird health and therefore reduce antibiotics, whilst still maintaining a first class shoot.”
Launched in 2022 by a group of specialist Gamebird Vets from the UK, Trusted Game was developed to provide a straightforward, audit-based scheme promoting the highest standards of health and welfare of of gamebirds on shoots and game farms. The initiative is open to any vets in the UK who work with game, making it accessible to shoots and farms nationwide.
Roxtons thanks Dan King for their services and advice, and encourages more shoots across the country to take part in the Trusted Game scheme to help promote best practice within the industry.
