Camp Bonaventure, Canada

You will fish in uncrowded waters with excellent guides surrounded by stunning scenery with wading that is as straightforward as it comes – it really is the best that Canada has to offer.

The fishing at Camp Bonaventure gives you an unrivalled chance to fish three of Canada’s great Atlantic salmon rivers. The Bonaventure, Grand Cascapedia and Petite Cascapedia are all fabled rivers that until very recently were fished wholly by exclusive clubs which could only be accessed by birth rights or excellent connections. Thanks to the efforts of the lodge owners it is now possible to fish these three rivers in superb style

The rivers are all very different which gives wonderful variety to your weeks fishing. The Bonaventure is crystal clear and is arguably one of the very few places in the world where it is possible to sight cast to 40lbs fish. You will stalk the fish from high vantage points to give you a reference as to where they are when you are on the water. Dead drifting bombers is the method of choice and the explosive reaction of the fish is a sight to behold.

The Grand Cascapedia is arguably the most famous of them all and it is a river that lives up to its reputation. It is a much bigger river than the Bonaventure and two handed rods would be useful. It is still fished to a large extent by the exclusive clubs and rods are hard to come by but it is one of the great experiences in salmon fishing and fish over 30lbs are not uncommon.

The Petite Cascapedia is very much a mix of the other two – big fish in clear water but it feels much more intimate and a day here is one to remember.

Accommodation

Camp Bonaventure has six very comfortable and spacious twin bedrooms to the twelve rods. Four of these room are in the main lodge and two are in a separate annexe, Chalet Linda – this annexe would be perfect for a group of four rods as it means you can be with your own group for drinks etc before dinner. All of the rooms are ensuite and have everything that you could wish for.

The dining room is large and there is also a sitting room where pre-dinner canapés are served. The food is simply superb and the kitchen can cater for any particular dietary requirements.
